That’s right. Wynn has the highest career WAR of any position player who didn’t receive a single Hall of Fame vote. Ouch.

Just to throw it in there… Edmonds comes in alittle ahead of Jimmy Wynn, who got no HoF support. I don’t mean that he got 25-30% every year for fifteen years and fell off [like Garvey]; I don’t mean that he got 10-15% for 15 years and fell off [Like Concepcion], or that he very nearly 5% in year one and fell off of the first ballot [like John Franco, Jeff Reardon, Ken Griffey, Frank White, Ted Simmons, etc]. I also didn’t mean that he got votes you can count on one hand, like David Justce and Lenny Dykstra and BJ Surhoff and Dave Henderson.

I mean he literally got zero votes. Granted, the more sophisticated voter of the later 2010s over 1983 might make a difference…

I loved watching Edmonds when he played for the Angels. Sometimes I would focus on him in CF and it seemed that he would be into his first step as the ball aproached the plate, before the batter started his swing (maybe an illusion). Downside of Edmonds, unjuries.

Great write up. I think your work with WAR makes it easy for fans to compare players when individual stats can be so misleading. Jimmy for HOF, give me a ballot I’ll cast the first vote.
